Travel Pass for Governors Island

A digital travel hub with gamified features to promote sustainable travel.

This project extends my field trip to Governor's Island, New York. Noticing an information gap for visitors, I designed a mobile app to organize event and facility details, promoting sustainable travel. Collaborating with a sustainability student, the project unfolded in three phases:

Problem Identification: Identified information gaps and opportunities during the field survey.
Design Evaluation: Analyzed the official website and travel guide app, highlighting pain points and recommendations.
SDGs Integration: Aligned the design with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

Hybrid work reveals hidden limits of wiring—You can’t charge wherever you want.

With hybrid work, more idle spaces will be used for multiple purposes and more office relocations, which reveals a hidden challenge: the tangled web of wiring we often forget. I identified this problem from my past experience as service designer/interior designer.

3 apps for exploring

Every relocation can take 3 to 4 weeks for only wiring. The cost of wiring was averagely 16%-20% of the relocation budget.

Every relocation or outlet reposition will waste tons of wires and its coverings.

All of the outlets are fixed after construction. You can’t charge wherever you want.

The map view displays the locations of visitors and nearby attractions. The well-organized introduction assists visitors in planning their visit and gaining a deeper understanding of the featured artists.

Gamified Features and Rewards Enhance Visitor Engagement

Visitors can engage with objects on the island through an augmented reality (AR) game, earning points that can be redeemed for discounts.

Promote Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Visitors can explore an introduction to the SDGs and participate in sustainability-related tasks to earn points. This allows them to actively contribute to sustainable practices while enjoying the experience.
